Clients

Selected engagements, and when they started

Two of these are client engagements and one is my own business. Each carries the year it started and whether it is still running today. I take three clients at a time, so a long list on this page would mean something had gone wrong with the arrangement rather than right. The dates are the part worth reading.

How the work is bought

Build, Optimize, Operate: one standard across all three

New client engagements start with the audit. What follows is decided by what the audit finds and by what you need next, and either outcome is a valid one.

Build
A system built from nothing.

Scoped after the audit, at a fixed price agreed before work begins. Milestone-based delivery, no templates, engineered for the business you have and the one you are heading towards.

Optimize
A system already run here, improved.

Once one person is answerable for a system, making it faster or safer is part of running it rather than a separate purchase. I do not take on a one-off repair of somebody else's build.

Operate
A running system, kept running.

Monitoring, updates, incidents and a written record each month, for a system built here or adopted here. The person who built it is the person who answers when it breaks, which is the whole reason the retainer exists.

The first step

Your situation isn't on this page.

Everything above is still running, and that is the only thing this page sets out to prove. Yours is the system worth talking about instead, so describe what you are running, in whatever words you use for it internally.

Twenty-five minutes on Google Meet, and a straight answer either way.

  1. 01

You describe what you are running, in whatever words you use for it internally.

  2. 02

You get a straight answer on whether the audit is worth doing at all, including when it is not.
